Contests of excess have abounded throughout history. In ancient Rome lust contests between prostitutes were an entertainment in some of the homes of the nobility. And drinking contests were not invented by fraternities.
But now we have the eating contest. These are often held in shopping malls or other consumer palaces. And the contestants often train for them. One guy was being interviewed and he said he eats 40 hot dogs in a timed session twice a week. He felt this was necessary to keep the flexibility of his digestive tract in condition.
These contests offer prizes, including money and they are becoming increasingly popular. Its a new trend we can do without.
This sport of gluttony is the new entertainment for the uber-consumer. And its really really gross.
